OKINAWA, Japan —

The following is a personal BZ message that was sent to the Captain and crew of the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) for receiving the Retention Excellence Award (REA) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2017. The award, announced by Commander, United States Fleet Forces Command, is given to commands that pass the annual Career Information Program Review (CIPR) with a score of 90 points or better and meet benchmarks showing commitment to the growth and development of Sailors.

Captain, Congratulations to you and the crew of the great ship WASP for your outstanding achievement earning the USFF retention excellence award for FY17!

The Golden Anchor shows WASP is a pace-setter in one of our Navy’s premier “People-first” programs.  Your accomplishment signals Wasp is a place where Sailors want to serve.

Fostering a culture of ‘stay-Navy’ takes engagement at all levels of the command. That culture equates to positive reinforcement of Navy core values and perspective on mission accomplishment, while also prioritizing off-duty life. Job well done in achieving this delicate balance!

My challenge to you, and to all of TF 76, is to continue that effort through FY18. Please share best practices across the waterfront.

I look forward to seeing WASP with its golden anchor! Keep up the great work Stingers!
